Hwy 480 Boil Advisory

Our system has experienced a loss of water in the service area that starts where Waldrip Street meets Hwy 480 and goes north toward Coushatta on Hwy 480. This occurred because a lightning strike caught a tree on fire which burned into the water main and damaged it. As a precaution, we are issuing a boil advisory for the affected area. Please see the official announcement below. We are working to restore water as soon as possible.

BOIL ADVISORY

FAIRVIEW-UNION WATER SYSTEM

April 1, 2023

For Immediate Release

The Fairview-Union Water System experienced a loss of water in the service area that starts where Waldrip Street meets Hwy 480 and goes north toward Coushatta on Hwy 480. This occurred because a lightning strike caught a tree on fire which burned into the water main and damaged it. Because of this, the water produced by our water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality.

Therefore, as a precaution, the Fairview-Union Water System is issuing a BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Water System.

It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing foods by the following means:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)

Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.

The Fairview-Union Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals – Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.

Please visit our website www.fairviewwater.net for more information and updates as they become available.
